I spent days at a small taxidermy and game processing shop outside of Denton, shadowing it’s owners, who lived just steps away from their shop. They welcomed me into their world and home, allowing me to photograph every aspect, and were eager to show off their own collection of exotic game. Every inch of their home was covered with an animal, oftentimes it was just a crowded clump of fur and horns.
There is a beauty and a nightmarish quality to this practice. The dead animal invokes a consuming gaze that is both a creation of our infinite relationships with nature as well as a reminder of the limits of those relationships.
